This step-by-step guide explains how to register an asset in the CASM Asset Management Platform using the mobile app. Registering assets ensures every item is accurately captured in your Fixed Asset Register, including its location, category, condition, and identifier. This creates a reliable foundation for tracking, verification, maintenance planning, and audit readiness.
Step 1: Prepare the Asset for Registration
Make sure the asset has a unique identifier on it (barcode label, serial number, or something scannable).
If it doesn’t have one yet, tag the asset first before registering it in CASM.
Step 2: Go to the Physical Asset
Go to the asset and stand physically in front of it.
You’ll be scanning the identifier and (optionally) taking a photo, so being on-site matters.
Step 3: Open CASM and Log In
Open the CASM mobile app on your phone.
Log in using your email address and password.
Step 4: Navigate to the Register Assets Screen
From the home screen, tap “Register Assets”.
You can usually find this in the menu (burger menu) or under Quick Actions.
Step 5: Select the Asset Location
Select the Branch you’re registering the asset to.
Select the Department the asset belongs to.
These fields tell CASM where the asset lives in your organisation.
Step 6: Choose the Asset Category
Open the Category dropdown.
Select the correct asset category.
Step 7: Select Manufacturer and Model
After choosing a category, the Manufacturer and Model fields will appear.
Select the correct Manufacturer from the dropdown.
Select the correct Model from the dropdown.
Step 8: Name the Asset and Set the Condition
Enter a clear asset name (something your team will recognise easily).
Select the asset Condition from the dropdown.
Step 9: Scan the Asset Identifier
Tap the blue scan icon to open your phone’s camera.
Hold your phone steady and point the camera at the barcode/identifier.
Wait for CASM to scan automatically.
Confirm the scan worked by checking that the identifier displays back on screen.
Step 10: Add Notes
Use the Notes free text field to capture anything useful about the asset.
Add details that might matter later (condition issues, missing parts, context for maintenance, or replacement decisions).
Step 11: Take a Photo (Optional but Recommended)
Tap “Take Photo” to capture an image of the asset.
This is optional, but a photo can reduce confusion later and help with verification and audits.
Step 12: Register the Asset
Review the captured details to make sure everything is correct.
Tap “Register”.
Wait for the success confirmation — the asset is now added to your Fixed Asset Register.
Additional Notes:
After registering, you can keep moving and register the next asset, or switch to other actions like Verify, Check In/Out, or additional fieldwork tasks. For faster scanning, make sure barcodes are clean, unwrinkled, and well-lit before you scan.
