Before you can start registering assets in CASM, it’s essential to have your asset locations and categories set up correctly. This ensures every asset is linked to the right branch, department, and classification; making tracking, reporting, and audits much easier. The steps below walks you through how to create and manage your Locations (Branches and Departments) and set up your Asset Categories, Manufacturers, and Models.
Step 1: Adding Branches + Departments
Navigate to the Admin Settings.
Select General Settings and sub menu Locations.
On the right hand side – select the + button to add a new Branch.
The popup window will display various fields. Be sure to complete all the mandatory fields marked with an asterisk (*) to create the branch.
Once you’ve completed the necessary details, click the Save button located at the bottom of the popup window. This will create the new branch.
To add a department, first find the branch where you want to add a department.
Expand the Department List: Click on the “+” icon next to the chosen branch. This will expand the list of departments associated with that branch.
Click the Add Department Button: Locate the clickable “+” icon in the top right corner of the department sub-list. Clicking this will open a popup window for adding a new department.
Fill in the Required Fields: The popup window will display various fields. Be sure to complete all the mandatory fields marked with an asterisk (*) to create the department.
Save the New Department: Once you’ve completed the necessary details, click the Save button located at the bottom of the popup window. This will create a new department location within the selected branch.
Step 2: Adding Categories, Manufacturers and Models
Navigate to the Admin Settings.
Select Assets and sub menu Categories.
On the right hand side – select the + button to add a new Category.
Enter a Category Name.
Enter the depreciation term (optional) for assets belonging to this category. Any asset assigned to this category will inherit this depreciation term.
Reset Verification (optional): Define how often an asset needs to be verified. If an asset assigned to this category goes beyond the set verification interval without being verified, CASM can automatically reset the verification status for that asset.
Verification Escalation (optional): Set the number of days for escalation. If an asset isn’t verified after the designated escalation period, CASM can automatically send email notifications to designated users.
To add Manufacturers, select the Manufacturers Tab while you are still in the category section.
Select the + sign on the right of the manufacturer grid to add a new manufacturer.
Expand the new Category to add models to the Category.
Once you’ve completed the necessary details, click the Save button located at the bottom of the popup window.
